HELEN'S ROLE: UX DESIGNER
OVERVIEW
Intentional You is a fictional therapy company created for the purposes of my Google UX design assignment coursework. The purpose behind the app is to help users book a local mental health professional with ease. I wanted to create an app that was engaging, visually accessible, and easy to navigate.
PROBLEM -> SOLUTION
The following pain points helped lead the direction of the design.
The solution was imagined as an intuitive and accessible app to help assist users with searching for local therapists. An app that would make it easy to see each therapist's calendar availability and to request an appointment based on that availability.
USER RESEARCH
The emphatize process allowed me to imagine the different users who will use the app and to not only consider the details of their lives and their journeys but to also take into account their accessibility needs.
COMPETITIVE AUDIT
A competitive audit was implemented to analyze the strengths and gaps of apps (and websites) such as Talk Space and Wysa. Talk Space is a popular service that links users to talk therapy. A clear call to action button is found in its homepage and all users need to do is complete a 60 second assessment. A pay wall prevents users from reading full reviews before signing up. Wysa integrates both AI technology and actual therapists. Wysa’s app is clutter free and simple to use. However, there isn’t a clear description of services, which felt like an opportunity for Intentional You Therapy. The dark and contrasting colors used by the Wysa app initiate a calm digital environment, which works well due to the product they are providing.
PAPER WIREFRAMES
The image to the left is an example of the paper wireframes created for the therapy research result page.
My goal was for users to have the ability to read a short glimpse of each therapists bio and photo before committing to read a fuller profile on them.

USABILITY STUDIES
An unmoderated usability study was designed for the purposes of this project. Two rounds of the usability study was conducted. The first helped to guide the design from wireframes to mockup. During the first round it was found that users sought: 1) a review page before finalizing an appointment and 2) extended search parameters.
The second usability study found that users sought more elaboration on the therapists credentials (such as alma mater) and a "distance from" indicator to gauge how far each therapist was from their zip code.
MOCK UPS
Based on the usability studies, changes were made such as adding a "distance from user" indicator as well as ways to filter the search page (filtering by fee for example). The ability to bookmark the therapist was moved to their main profile page.
