HELEN'S ROLE: UX DESIGNER
OVERVIEW
Generational First was created as my final assignment for the Google UX Design certification course. The final assignment was related to social good. The prompt of designing an app for first generation college students immediately drew me, as I was a first-generation college student myself and understood the importance of this social cause. My main focus became linking up students with mentors who could help them navigate college.
GOALS
To design a colorful and inspirational app that assists first-generation students with mentors and resources.
IDEATION
Through a fun game of Crazy Eights initial ideas came to fruition.
USER
The ability to empathize was made easy through the construction of relatable user stories and journey maps. It became clearer and clearer what an app like Generational First could do for others. Below is an example of one of the user personas created: a potential college student named Eliza.
WIREFRAMES- LOW FIDELITY
USABILITY STUDIES
An unmoderated usability study was designed for the purposes of testing out the high fidelity prototype. Positive feedback was received as to the ease of the design. Constructive feedback was also received, users suggested an "about me" page as well as notification bubbles to indicate when a mentor had sent a message through the chat.
